Pause Within the Pause

Often, people try to negotiate with the universe. They plead in prayer, and perhaps the most common plea is for grace.

It’s often said that when we take a pause with the breath— not holding it, not controlling it, but resting in the space between breaths— that is where the divine speaks.

Or perhaps more accurately, where the divine is found.

A quiet invitation:

Refrain from naming.

The moment something is named, it becomes an object of attention. But pure awareness is not an object.

When attention moves toward objects, awareness can seem to step behind the curtain. It never leaves— yet it no longer stands in the foreground.

“He who knows himself knows his Lord.” — attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib

If you are seeking grace, peace, or guidance— take a pause.

Do not hold the breath.
Simply notice the pause between breaths.
Rest there.

Feel the stillness. Notice the pause itself.

This attunement is not reserved for special moments.

Standing in line at the grocery store.
While working.
In the midst of ordinary life.

The breath continues.
And within it, the pause quietly remains.

Notice the pause between breaths.
Rest there.
